Or is that not a thing? I don’t recall seeing much in the way of party games in a self hosted environment.

    I’d love that too.
Some games like gartic phone / draw.io, codeword, balderdash, jackbox-alike type games, that I could host on my own server to avoid tracking/ads, and play with my family over holidays.

Card games and board games with people. New Year’s isn’t really the time or place for this kind of thing.

This. Considering that you’d want to be with people, it only makes sense that you be analog for a bit.

They’re party games you play together in person.

Some have analog-only equivalents but they often require you to have physical equipment, like pictionary basically requires an easel.

I don’t really disagree with you, but it’s good to meet people where they are. Party games that use a phone is better than no party games at all.

The wife and I has returned to Valheim on a selfhosted dedicated server during the holidays, not sure if an adventuring party is the party you were thinking about. I’ve been /dancing on the ship as she steers it over the ocean though.

Most of the “party” games I have require no self hosting, it’s just split/shared screen co-op on the TV, Gang Beasts is a favourite and depending on what friends are over Genital Jousting can also be booted up for some laughs.

My wife and I have also returned to Valheim during the holidays 😂

We didn’t get far on our first playthrough, we barely got past the swamp, but this time we’re about to get to the mistlands!

        Nice!

We always get to mountain, then run out of steam before restarting a few months later.
        Have fun!

We’ve done our first crypt this playthrough then we got busy building rest stops and roads, farming and all that. Good job getting to the mistlands!

First time meeting a monster can be a bit scary, especially the sea serpent on a stormy ocean, but you get used to them and soon enough they start to look like moving resource piñatas.

Practice blocking and dodging and prioritize having a good shield and good food buffs and most things work themselves out.

Card games is pretty much it for us. Though with 2 kids, events are generally out right now. Once they are a bit older that will probably change.

I used to self host a cards against humanity style game that was browser based, but cards are just easier. There are a few I think on the awesome self hosted list, like a mincraft clone and a scrabble one, so the games section there may be worth a look.

I don’t think that is self hosting because I think that the game actually runs on their servers and your deck is just a client. But maybe it actually runs on the deck and the server is just for connecting the clients? 🤔

It’s definitely not self hosted. Regardless of where the server is running, you have to connect to it using jackbox.tv and I don’t know of any way to play the games without that.

I’m going to ‘selfhost’ nekid party games with my lady friend…does that count? 😈 I am incapable of playing most games tho. Sad that. There are so many out that look so very cool. I’ll have to enjoy them vicariously.
