  • We used to do quite a bit of travelling ten years ago and we used booking.com quite often. In those early days of booking online, there was a period when you could call the help line and actually talk to someone from America or Canada. And they were always helpful. We got messed up bookings back then and we always got help and figured things out. At one point, we were booking so often, we got to know one or two of the operators we kept talking to in London, Ontario.

Fast forward ten years later and I would not recommend any of them any more. All of them send you to a call center in either South / Central America, Philippines or India and like your comment said, they do absolutely as minimal as possible to do anything and keep you waiting on the phone as long as possible.

None of them work any more and it is far better to use them to shop around for quality, reviews and recommendations … then book directly with the hotel.

Use the sites and services as a guide, then find a direct phone number to the hotel and book directly with them.

  • Which now renders their site useless … I’ll go on your site to look up basic info … then go to your store to get what I want and even visit some other store or service that could give me the same product.

It’s a disincentive to want to use their site in the future.

I’ve stopped using several store websites because of this. Then when I want an actual product … I’ll call the store and ask them to look for the product for me. If they have it great, if they don’t, I’ll look for it elsewhere or figure out some other solution for myself that doesn’t involve any of their dumb websites.

I’m regressing from the internet and use people contact more and more because of this stupidity. I’m going back to the way I did things in the 90s and early 2000s where I would just use their store flyer as a guide, call the local store to ask for something and then go look for it myself because the online services today are so intrusive and needlessly complicated that its faster and more useful to not go online.

  • I’m as left of center as most socially minded people … I’m making a comment here and I keep messing it up

Cuba, the country or it’s government did not directly cause the assassination of JFK. You can even see it in the reaction of Castro when he heard the news … he immediately saw it as nothing but bad news for Cuba.

What I am trying to say is that American intelligence set up a whole system and people to either have paramilitary or assassination groups to be sent and set up in Cuba. But their plans were either shelved, delayed or dismissed leaving all those groups with nothing but a sense of abandonment, disillusionment and anger at being set aside. They were ripe for being redirected to a different operation directed at their own country.

What I’m saying is that Cuba had a role in that it only needed to exist … to be there … clandestine forces built a system to assassinate a leader in Cuba but when that didn’t happen, they redirected the gun (so to speak) at their own leadership.

What I’m saying is that the JFK assassination would have been less likely to happen if no one had been going after Cuba in the first place.

  • I guess I wasn’t clear with my statement

I meant to suggest that Cuba was the cause of the JFK assassination from the point of view that all the clandestine projects they were working on for an assassination for Fidel Castro didn’t work or were being prevented or discouraged by the US government. This set off a chain of events where they turned the projects they were directing to Cuba instead towards the US president. Basically the same operations and operators that were meant to be directed to Cuba were instead brought to the US and the president.

In a round about way … Cuba was the cause or catalyst (or one of many causes or catalysts) for the JFK assassination.

  • That doesn’t make sense. I watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney on my Ubuntu laptop on Firefox all the time. I have a laptop setup in front of my treadmill just to watch shows while I walk.

I have one large screen dumb TV and I just use a Roku device to watch shows through that. Everything else in the house runs in Linux because I got rid of windows years ago and never had a problem with streaming services.

  • Investors are like parasitic leeches to any business model. As soon as you add them, the business has to grow in order to satisfy the leeches who provide no benefit to the model other than to be attached to it. If you ignore the leech, they’ll drain all your lifeforce, so you’re only option is to satisfy them and feed them. Unfortunately, they are also ravenous creatures who are never satisfied. If you feed them a little, they’ll want more next time in an endless cycle.

Once you are infected by investors … eventually they will destroy whatever you created.
