    The outlook is not looking good. Betting everything on US protection was a mistake. The people that will be hurt by this will be the most downtrodden and dependent on government welfare and services, one of the few good things about the GCC states.

      It’s going to be interesting to see if these proxies can even survive now. They all have one dimensional economies built around energy exports, and if this war goes on for any period of time they’re going to start crashing. And I’m sure being allied with US and Israel against Iran isn’t exactly playing well with their public either.

      • I was really hoping that the China brokered peace with Iran was a sign of things to come. I don’t know if it is shortsightedness or fear, but they should have distanced themselves from the US. Even if they try and drum up sectarianism against Iran no one wants to die fighting for the US and Israel.

          It’s probably a combination of both. They are effectively under US occupation, and they also figured that they were too valuable for the US not to protect them. Now they’re realizing that they’re expendable, and that Americans can’t save them, but it’s too late.
