Actually, I think that’s exactly the goal. Iran knows they have to fight asymmetrically, and attacking the economies of the US and their allies is basically the plan that they’ve developed. They’ve demonstrated their ability to enforce the closure of Hormuz, and this is effectively equivalent to what the US has been doing with economic sanctions directed against the west.
