As the city redesigned 1200 West to better connect State Route 252 with communities in the southern end of Cache Valley, officials installed a protected bike lane, enhanced pedestrian crossings and curves in the road to slow traffic. They also put in raised concrete slabs at intersections to force drivers into slower, wider turns.

Not surprising, everyone says they want safer roads but won’t give up the F350 to haul their larded ass around or drive even slightly slower…

Huh, I wish my town would do those corner protectors. There’s one corner especially, a block from my house, and on a major walking route to our neighborhood elementary school. After it snows, I frequently see tire tracks across the sidewalk from people who cut the corner badly. One of these days, they’re going to run over a kid on the sidewalk on their way to school.

There’s a stoplight across the street from me with a “no right turn on red” sign, because traffic turning into that road from the left backs up so much it needs its own green arrow.

I see people casually roll through that right turn about 20 times a day, and the local FD shows up about twice a week for a crash. Not many are fatal but occasionally a cyclist or pedestrian does get hit, because Becky in her Audi is MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU

These “mountable islands” might be good in theory but it looks like the city did absolutely nothing to make them easily visible. I’ve seen similar things around my own city and its almost as if the traffic engineers want to cause vehicle damage and dangerous maneuvers as you often can’t see these obstacles until you’re about to crash into them.

In my area they are often accompanied by wooden policeman stands to indicate the new obstacle. Though they usually take them away after a year or so and only sometimes leave behind a proper sign.

And looking at the placement of them in the article’s pictures, it doesn’t seem quite right to me. They look like they’d be easy to run into.

Honestly, every time I hear about Utah, it’s some dumbass bullshit.

This is the same state that banned masks during covid.

Citation? All I can find is that they ended mandates in April 2021, but nothing about a ban.
