What are y’all playing?

I’ve been playing Persona 5 Royal! I’m absolutely loving it. It’s my 3rd time trying to play and I think it’s really clicked this time. Super excited to keep playing :)

Playing Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and just finished Act 2 today. Kinda not sure about this one.

The prologue was a complete slog. Just stuck at level 2, basically no options to do anything, fights taking hours because the enemy and you constantly miss each other.

Act 1 was a lot better, you gain levels at a decent pace and grow a lot more powerful (compared to the prologue). There were a few challenging fights, I think most or all of them optional, so it wasn’t too bad. Except when you’re “stuck” in a tiny room with no space to maneuver, and enemies that use AoE attacks. Also, permanent debuffs, that you don’t have the tools to remove yet, unless you buy expensive items from a vendor. Fantastic, just like Kingmaker.

Then Act 2 started alright, still had a couple of “trap areas”, that you probably shouldn’t visit as soon as you find them. Then in the later half it got a lot slower, nothing really to explore, and you’re mostly waiting and slowly building your Crusader Army to clear the way. Kingmaker was similar, but only in the later Acts, when you’ve basically done everything, and you just need to wait for the next big event. While this wasn’t as extreme (not by a long shot), it’s a bit worrying that this stuff is already starting this early into the game.

Anyway, Act 2 didn’t end badly, it was actually fun, since you get a lot of power, relatively quickly, so I’ll keep playing. If there’s another one of these super slow periods though, where you’re just waiting around, I’ll either cheat/mod to make it more bearable or drop the game, depending on how I feel at the time.

Apart from that, the game is still extremely buggy, even after all these years of patches. It’s probably even worse than Kingmaker. I’m playing in Turn-Based mode and I regularly just lose turns with characters, which is just frustrating. The enemy aggro system/mechanic is also kind of terrible and possibly also broken. It’s really surprising just how much better Rogue Trader is in that regard. It still has a bunch of bugs, but they are relatively minor.

I’ve been slowly finishing Xenosaga 3, I think I’m nearing the end. I’ll hold my judgement for when I actually finish it, but I mostly enjoyed the series even if I’m a bit mixed on it.

I saw Haste while scrolling through Steam and decided to try it. I was sold on it from the demo, it looks and sounds really good and the movement is a lot of fun. The full game tho was quite the disappointment. It feels incomplete like a vertical slice, more than a full release.

The main game is composed of different levels, but each of them is structured as a roguelike and you don’t keep items you buy between each level except upgrades you can buy (a la Hades). The items themselves change very little and the stages are fully randomly generated so they get repetitive very quickly. There’s also an endless mode which is more fun to play, as you keep stacking items, but it suffers from the same lack of level design.

Now I’m playing Arknights Endfield and I’m enjoying it. I hate that it’s a gacha, but it’s pretty fun. The combat isn’t the deepest but it’s enjoyable; it kinda reminds me of Xenoblade. The same goes for the base/factory building: it’s a very simple implementation of the system, but it’s fun to set it up. Storywise, the writing isn’t great and the translation is at times of dubious quality, but I wasn’t expecting much.

Playing Silksong. Knee-deep in act 2, or at least I think I am. I’m starting to see a lot of similarities between this game and Bloodborne (Team Cherry have never been afraid of saying how much they love FromSoft games, isn’t it?)

Recently a gamed called Super Chipflake Ü: Quest for the uncooked Schnitzel released and I originally wasn’t gonna buy it because I thought it was gonna be a switch exclusive. Either way, I bought it when I found it is also on Steam. The trailer on steam and probably yt as well should tell you enough about this kinda silly game that I spent a few hours over the weekend playing.

I also started playing Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time on my steam deck since the disc copy I got keeps freezing in 2 PS3 consoles. First world in and I give it a yikes. The other games definitely had some probably slightly offensive stereotypes, but the 4th game opening up with a level called “Turning Japanese” and the way Rioichi speaks rubs me kinda wrong, despite it being a fun game.

Otherwise, I just got back into Slay The Spire and am still hate playing the Oaken Tower beta demo.

Edit: first game I listed came out January 18th. Made by a small German indie studio.

Stick It To The Stickman (It’s early access, but lots of content, and on sale for $7). The janky controls are part of the charm, but they’re also pretty frustrating.

Final Fantasy Tactics! I’m going to really commit this time, I’ve been trying to beat this game since I was a kid. I never kept multiple saves and always locked my playthrough by saving in the wrong spot while under leveled.

I’ve been replaying We Happy Few, almost done with Sally’s act. I’m really looking forward to going through the DLCs again.
