OMG, yes… Poor Roman Brady on Days of Our Lives… He was made and remade - though granted, Drake Hogestyn did a bang-up job as Roman/John Black.

Yeah the new guy who played Greg in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend wasn’t nearly as good. At least they made some knowing jokes about it

I stopped watching with how badly they changed the story midway through season two so the switch to Liam didn’t really make a difference to me. I don’t understand why show runners sometimes work on material they clearly don’t like. I guess a gig is a gig

He has other shit going on, yes, but Cavill left the show because the writers weren’t sticking to the source material.

The best part about this, and the one I don’t see echoed enough, is that Cavill is a nerd. And I mean that in the best way. He ignored the call casting him as Superman because he was in a WoW raid.

He is invested in the Witcher series because it means something to him. He’s played the games, read the novels, and he was constantly pushing back on the writers and producers for straying. “Geralt wouldn’t do that, or Yennefer wouldn’t say that…” Etc. I love that he was passionate enough about it to stick to what he knew was correct.

Story wise, they retell some things and tell a brand new story from the books for the most part. But still very closely follow the book’s characters, relationships and settings.

The show feels like it isn’t even on the same universe. And the characters are aliens cosplaying as the book characters but who never actually read the source material and don’t understand what the story is about.

Not just that. They were completely changing characters personality and development just to tell their own shitty stories.

It was a lot more than that. He said from the beginning he was onboard for like 7 seasons if they stuck to the source material. Season 1 they immediately started fucking with main characters. The showrunners made it clear they wanted to make their own story, but had to use The Witcher IP.

The best scenes in the first season were ones that Cavill insisted were changed and that he worked on specifically to stay truer to the source material and his character.

I actually thought how Solar Opposites handled getting rid of Roiland was hilarious. Like, instead of getting someone to just keep impersonating Roiland, they just shot Corvo with a “permanent voice changing ray gun” that made him sound like the new VA, which is TOTALLY DIFFERENT than what he sounded like before (which was basically just the same voice as Rick Sanchez).

And the purposely halfassed justification for the new voice actor being in flash backs.

I was just thinking about this while watching Solar Opposites the other day. A part of me remembered that Roiland was the VA in season 1, but Korvo’s been British so long now that it’s the default when I think of the character. I can’t even visualize Roiland’s voice for the character anymore.

God I am so the opposite. I don’t give a shit. They’re actors the whole point is they’re supposed to be able to pretend to be people. I can’t stand when Studios pretend that a role belongs to a single actor. Recast that shit. Elizabeth Shue did it with Back to the Future 2 and it was excellent.

Why do you care about this show at all? It is a steaming pile of dogshit.

I thought it was alright. I wouldn’t say good, but I wouldn’t say dogshit either. I’ve no urge to watch it, but I’d watch it without complaint if someone else put it on

… so back to my original question, why do you care about this show at all?
