I was wondering if it were tied to recent court decisions in Korea to allow someone to sue over wartime labour, but it looks like this has been going on a lot longer.

I oppose the death penalty in very nearly every circumstance. I think that prisons should be more about rehabilitation that just brutish punishment (but the punishment exists at least in part to avoid extra-judicial attacks by the victims who feel the perpatrator was not justly punished). Some people, of course, cannot be rehabilitated and, in that case, I would lean toward life in prison.

The netuyo are probably whinging about it, but I stay away from those corners of the internet. Osaka Naomi and others have faced issues as well. Mostly, from what I remember, it’s been sports competitions where this comes up

I had a mouse where one was vertical and the other horizontal, but I seem to think the horizontal scroll was oriented horizontally. Having googled the mouse in the picture, it says one is programmable and suggests it starts with volume.

I actually got board, got a new HDD, and got linux mint on it. It doesn’t seem to have a bootloader installed and trying to install grub2 hasn’t changed anything. I’m also pretty disappointed in game support. Maybe I’m missing something, but Steam knows it’s on linux and a huge number of games in my library just say they run on windows or windows and mac.

One of my goals after moving is to get another HDD and dual-boot as I transition away. I mostly have to figure out gaming and video editing stuff. I will also probably run WINE just for notepad++ because I can’t quit it with the textfx tools (so far as I know, the linux clone was abandoned, sadly).

Schools in Japan only have whole milk (except in cases of students with allergies or the like) and are doing far better on obesity. Whilst I drink milk probably once every few months and could mostly not care if I never had it again, I don’t think milk is the right place to look.

11 in my neck of Tokyo. The last few nights have dipped below freezing, however. This probably isn’t super weird for the time of year here, however. Going up to visit the inlaws for the end of the year, and it’s currently 0 up there. Last year, I think we hit -15 whilst we were there, but this year it looks like the low is going to be freezing (which is rather warm for northeastern Japan in December).

I play a mix of characters. If they’re voiced, I tend to prefer feminine voices. I think there are a number of reasons for this, but one practical one is that I just hear better in a higher range for whatever reason (and this gets more true the older I get). I have a much easier time hearing higher-pitched voices and generally find them more pleasant.

If they’re not voiced, it depends upon if I’m role-playing something specific. If so, I’ll pick whichever I think fits best. If not, I’ll probably pick a female character just because I find them more pleasing to look at. I always wanted to go back and do a female V playthough of Cyberpunk, but I just never got around to it.

Years ago, in the early 2000s, I got in to MMOs with Final Fantasy XI. I played mostly female characters there because people were more likely to help out.

Proof? There are other (some equally creepy) ways that it could get this info. Depending upon how the DVD player is connected, it could simply be getting info from that. It could also be taking occasional screenshots. There are other things as well.

In many ways yes. Japan has its own brand of racial superiority which is why I just found it a bit weird they’re going for nazi shit. It could also just be that they heard and liked a song, but I kinda doubt that this is the case.

Weird. Lots of purchasers in Japan. All have Japanese-looking names, but who knows if some of those are real.

People aren’t not having kids here because of university. Fix work-life balance and daycare access in the bigger cities if you want more kids. Better, try to incentivize spreading out from Tokyo and revive the old towns out there. Edit: also, stagnant wages and inflation

Good. In my wife’s day, she had to wear skirts even in awful weather (she grew up in an area in northern Tohoku where they got enough snow to have heated streets in some places) and had to change before entering school or risk getting in trouble. She wasn’t allowed to wear tights or leggings under her skirt. Now, at least from the couple of younger people I’ve seen and talked to, around here some (all?) school at least let all students wear slacks these days. There’s definitely pressure that some young women feel to wear skirts even if they don’t want to (not just based on gender identity, but pressure to fit in with the group, etc.) but that’s probably another topic.

There was an old bug up through at least XP (maybe gone by SP3, but I don’t remember) where there would be certain SSIDs or network names that incremented because of how networking was implemented. I’m doubtful it’s the same thing, but you could try searching there for a start.

I’m willing to bet a TON of medical and banking data is still making its way through perl today. (I’m not necessarily saying this is a good thing, but I have years of experience in healthcare IT).

I hope he gets referred to the police for his bullshit, sits in a cell, and then gets perma-banned from here.
