  • This might be completely diferent thing and it could be fixed already. Few months ago there was an update (debian bullseye i think) that messed up usb IDs on rasberries. It was mainsail os for 3D printer in my case and there was a fix that I never got working so I reinstalled OS and didnt update after that. I believe it was something with uuid, but better check yourself and never trust my words lol I hope someone knows more about that because it reminds me on the pain I had

  • Im not 100% if that changed or not, but if you are using raspberry pi I think you still need sd card to boot from SSD. The way you install it is actually installing OS on both of them and then doing some tricks to boot from USB after initiall boot from SD card. Once you start your OS you can unplug SD card, but still need it for next reboot. Maybe there is a good way how to clone, but deffo not simple as regular cloning.

You can just add SSD as a storage and move docker volumes and catch folder to it (not sure about omv tho), but that wouldnt move your OS.

Many SSDs failed on me, but never SD card in raspberry pi. I do use high quality cards tbf and Im aware SSD is much better for OS, but feels like its all about luck. Just my 2c

  • I was on the same boat 15 years ago. Still waiting solidowrks replacement on linux haha. All open source or free CAD is okayish, but they cant replace proper software like solidworks. Inventor, catia, proe, they are all decent, but solidworks became kinda industry standar, so better stick with it since you already have some experience (its easy to switch between them). Compatibility will stop you from using any other if you need to share files (not step or stl) with someone. Even different versions of SW (every few years) are not backward compatible. Solidworks is almost the only reason why I still have windows
