No link, we didn’t publish the work.
A hacker group in Seattle (GHI) years ago attempted to build secure systems on top of compromised hardware. Although different levels of security could be achieved, the overall outcome was No. You cannot build a fully secured system on top of compromised hardware.
A VPS for this exercise counts as ‘compromised’ hardware.
Have you perused Distro Watch?
Lots of good info & news, and info on just about every distro there is, stuff you’ve never heard of. Years and years ago this was my introduction to FreeNAS that made a huge difference in my life. You should check it out if you haven’t already.
I’ve used Lets Encrypt for years and years, in fact it’s been at least 6?. LE with the encryptbot?, automate the entire process, and then completely forget about it until someone posts on Lemmy asking about it.
It’s been long enough I’ve forgotten the proper names of the software and I would have to go back through my notes to recreate it.
Just checked the logs and it’s fine.
Don’t pay for shit.

No-ip.
I’ve been using them for about 15 years now. Started when I self hosted at home with the free service and even though I moved to a VPS I still use them ($32 USD / year, dedicated TLD, dedicated IP). I can add redirects, temp static landing page, etc etc.
I’ve had a SINGLE outage of their service in that time.
They also have free services as well, dynIP clients for Win & Lin, and their shit works. Most DD-WRT / OpenWRT images also support it.
I hate this so much.

Going from my laptops to a client’s Windows machine feels like I’m stepping back in time, every time.
Even my Win10 VM is light years ahead of Windows ‘proper’ because of all of the modifications to make it usable.
MS Windows belongs in a museum, not at an office or on a desk.
