  • This is why I am just going to pay networks of my favorite youtubers directly when YouTube finally gets too bad to use. I’m never paying for RedTube or whatever the fuck porny ass name their premium service has so that Google gets most of my money and Mr beast gets a cut while the people I actually watch get nothing. I pay for Dropout already and that shit is so much better than Netflix and other services. Sure it’s low budget but it’s still better than the slop all the big companies are shoveling out of their troughs.

  • How much do those tapes cost if purchased in bulk? I am trying to figure out how much a petabyte storage system costs, and how much physical space this would take up, and how much electricity it would require to run. I had a lot of trouble finding this information on Google because I know so little about tape storage and don’t know what all I would need. I am probably not going to actually do anything with this but I am curious because I had this idea for a product and can’t get it out of my mind. The most important part (for the hardware portion) is having nearly a petabyte of physical, local storage. I am aware this would be quite expensive and relatively large, but the product would be intended for governments and companies not individuals.

  • Unfortunately this is a pretty common occurrence. There was a big furor about it about a decade ago with a social media fad called the “hot car challenge” where adults would sit in hot cars turned off in the sun to see how long they could last in them ostensibly to build awareness of the problem, and there were all sorts of helpful tips and design changes made to cars and phones to try to make it more difficult to forget your kids in hot cars. Myself I wonder if any of it had any actual impact because surely the sort of people who leave their kids in hot cars aren’t the smartest and probably don’t keep up with safety PSAs about the issue.

  • Sauce plus and dropout as well. Basically run by youtubers to make content without relying on YouTube. A lot of this is running on pre-existing tech for running a streaming service and I assume it’s dependent on AWS (Amazon) hosting but yeah lots of smaller paid streaming services run by youtubers because YouTube sucks. I believe sauce plus is essentially the same as Floatplane on the backend, they mentioned working with LTT to make it.

Thanks for the heads up. I have ordered things online from best buy in the past but not again if they’re going to do this shit. I know they’re not reading Lemmy for customer experiences but this is ridiculous and nobody should have to go through that. I think a week of “investigation” is more than generous especially if you have video of the guy stealing your shit. I would also file a police report to really add to the evidence but that’s even more time out of your day and then you have to talk to the cops and explain why the felony theft (at least in my state) that you were the victim of is worth the time it takes for them to get off their asses and stop eating doughnuts for 5 minutes to collect the report. A lot of companies won’t do shit without a police report. The driver is also probably going to be pissed if he gets fired over this and also knows exactly where you live, so having a police report is a good idea if he tries some shit. Not that the police will actually do anything about it, again it just adds to the paper trail.

  • I feel like if you had put half the time and effort it took to do this into improving yourself and going outside you could have at least gone on some dates with real women at this point. Talking to an AI chatbot is not the same as human connection and will only lead to further depression as you realize that no matter how much you “love” your AI girlfriend she will never truly love you back because she can’t think or feel, and fundamentally isn’t real.
