Sometimes you don’t even have the luxury of vi. Any moderately advanced Linux user should probably learn the basics of sed. Just knowing how to insert text and save it can fix a system that’s stuck in recovery. Even if it’s just to add a comment in front of a line in a config file.
every time Ive has a problem it was keyring or bootloader
there should always be default decorations glares at gnome
cool and good. thunderbird is also very good about this and more projects should present their donation stuff just as tastefully
it’s a very successful rebrand. people Ive talked to hate linux as a concept but will use a deck
it’s Debian “latest” doesn’t even enter the conversation (without a lot of garbage and pain, or flatpak)
wish I knew how to use the journal, seems like there isn’t any good way to just search the previous session’s logs without a mountain of fuss or having to guess file names
we really got kde 6 before gimp 3
not sure if duct tape or brute force but if I can’t stop a file from getting overwritten like resolv.conf I just make it immutable with chattr
windows update can and will always find your dual boot eventually and break it
for better and worse, XWayland works perhaps too well
under the definition of bike shedding in the Encyclopedia you’ll find wayland the prime example. been waiting years on one pr for them to decide on the word “may” vs “will”
I’m sure I missed something important because I picked it from the list in sddm and went to black screen without any TTYs to switch to. project for another day alas
I had them ducking too for a while but it messed with full screen apps enough I put it back to always up
wish it was easier to get the cachy kernel, the checksums on the aur pkg are always outdated
server: LTS , desktop: latest point release. keeps the video games happy
I make sure it doesn’t have certain brands of Wi-Fi card in them :/ miserable times with broadcom leave me wary
it’s Wayland, multiply any number times 10 at least. I’ve been waiting 2 years so far for them to decide on the word “must” vs “may” in a part of the protocol
nope missed the boat back in July/Aug apparently
