The downsides you would only read on Linux communities. My mother couldn’t even begin to understand what snap is about.

The reason I still choose Ubuntu, or sometimes Mate, specially for other people is because I know it’s highly likely to just work on any laptop I throw it into. Most people don’t care one single bit about the downsides of Ubuntu.
Ubuntu is much less user hostile than windows. My parents only used Ubuntu for the past several years because they inherited my old laptop. They just want to Google stuff, so all they need is a familiar browser.
Oh for the love of Linus, block all notifications requests from websites at the browser level. Comon people accept all notifications requests and get inundated by them.
I feel like we were just getting used to the old new logo?
It’s possible this new logo is only for using next to other brands.
There’s so many poor names in FOSS but people refuse to change them out of attachment for history. One other example comes to mind: Gimp.
Basically, devs are terrible at naming things.
I said distributed freely. That’s the case in a lot of places in Europe and Asia and I’ve read enough times on reddit that many Americans get it for free too.
Even with PrEP distributed freely (with a prescription) HIV is still spreading. So unfortunately it’s not purely a money problem. A vaccine you only have to take yearly would dramatically change the landscape of transmission.
Sounds nice. I wonder if there’s some open source project with similar features?
I haven’t carried a USB stick in years, so not sure what I would do. Maybe a copy of my recipe book if I ever digitize it?
Uncheck that box too
Story time:
I worked for an insurance company a long time ago. We sold insurance for 1, 2 or 3 years, and each year we would prompt the user to extend.
At some point we changed to a yearly subscription that you could cancel at any time and even get a prorated refund. This made us substantially more money because far more people would forget to cancel their subscription than there were people committing or extending to 3 year insurance. So the number of users reaching the max of 3 years increased.
Was probably made by a child as a school project. At least I hope.
We’re so many levels of abstraction and emulation deep, that the natural conclusion is that there’s no reason to believe we’re at the top of the abstraction, but somewhere in the middle.
We definitely living in a simulation.
Do you hate everything you don’t understand?
Is it really that surprising? Specially the type of person that would be on Lemmy and use Linux.
Wait, there are planes where the toilets are not fully enclosed?? In a tightly sealed cabin??? This is beyond disgusting.
That’s what retros are supposed to be for. To discuss how to improve the process.
Yup same. I always wondered why there was a user folder when we already have home.
