  • It’s pretty wild how many people in this thread (and in general) don’t see youtubers as a business selling a product.

Its great if you want to buy stuff from your favorite content creators shop, but the shop is there to make money. It makes money for their business. What do we call it when a business goes out of their way to show consumers their products in the hopes that they’ll purchase something? an advertisement. This isn’t something debatable lol, it’s literally the definition of the word.

Its awesome if you wanna support your favorite content creators, it’s totally OK if you don’t personally mind seeing their shop below the video, a simple toggle would let you keep that. But an ad is an ad, and people are right to be frustrated that they’re being shown ads when they specifically paid extra money not to be shown them.

  • Irrelevant, since my critique actually has nothing to do with Ukraine, but about constitutions in general.

So you’re advocating for him to break the constitution he was elected to uphold, to hold an election that would have to be incomplete and unfair - all so that you, a person who isn’t even a Ukrainian can feel better about the situation? Despite the fact that there’s no call for this from the actual Ukranian public?

That’s certainly an opinion to have lol

  • So, in your opinion - in order for Zelensky to not be a dictator, he has to break all the existing rules of law in order to completely replace the existing constitution? And he should be allowed to do this unilaterally? And this would make him not a dictator? He’s not a fucking monarch dude, he’s the elected head of state - he doesn’t have supreme authority to do whatever the fuck he feels like.

The foundation of democracy is the idea that our elected officials have to abide by the rules of law that are already in place, including (and especially) those laws that concern how other laws are made. Otherwise any elected official could just declare themselves the new supreme ruler and toss out every law that limits their power.

And that’s all putting aside the question of how you would even hold an election in war ravaged Ukraine right now, a significant portion of which is under hostile occupation lol

  • You really don’t need any AI (assuming you mean LLMs like ChatGPT) to bot the shit out of Eve - the way the game fundamentally functions makes it dead simple to bot (it’s not like WoW where you have to deal with pathfinding or positioning for combat) - you could write a mining bot in a weekend, and it’s dead hard to catch because “normal” mining basically looks indistinguishable from botting

  • What exactly is the process for a complete replacement in the constitution in Ukraine? Is it something that can feasibly be accomplished during wartime?

Edit: apparently the process is “you can’t” https://zakon.rada.gov.ua/laws/show/389-19#Text (Article 19 Section 1)

So basically there is no way for Zelensky to change anything about the situation without just fraglantly breaking the law (or declaring an end to martial law during wartime, which would be beyond stupid). Pretty hard to argue he’s a “dictator” when literally all he’s doing is following the law that was out in place well before he was elected.

Now, if the war ends and he still refuses to hold a election, I’ll be right with you in calling for action, but I fail to see any fault with his current course on this specific issue

  • Frankly, who the fuck knows lol

If you can’t stand bugs, id just hold off entirely until Beta at least. Frankly they’ve still got a ways to go to just get the basic content in the game, several core gameplay loops like exploration are still missing, and some core pieces of tech like server meshing are still MIA as well.

Could be a year or two, could be another decade, could be never.

My advice for SC is as follows - if the game in it’s current state (check it out during a free fly event - which is probably coming up soon) is something you enjoy playing, then grab a starter ship and enjoy, but if you just want to play the “finished” game, then wait. And under no circumstances drop hundreds of dollars on internet spaceships lol - it’s really not that hard to grind your way in-game to good ships, and frankly you’ll have more fun that way, because there’s nothing to do with the most expensive ships right now anyways.

  • OK, take a delivery mission from the crowded space station you’re currently on, load a rover onto your ship (by which I mean actually load a rover onto your ship, not just press “equip rover” in a menu) . Walk onto your ship (again, meaning actually walk onto your ship, not just load straight into the cockpit), travel to your fly down onto the planets surface without a single loading screen, head down to your rover bay, get in and drive over to the delivery location to deliver the package. All without one single loading screen at any point in the process.

The closest I can think of to that is space engineers, except space engineers doesn’t really have “missions” in the same way SC does and the station would be a ghost town, and all the ships/rovers would look like LEGOs lol

Don’t get me wrong, the game is very unfinished and even by alpha standards it isn’t at all perfect and there’s a 50/50 chance that at some point in the process above you’ll get a 30k or some other game breaking bug, but I don’t see how you can have played the game like you say and not think that it’s doing things other games aren’t. There’s no other game that I’m currently aware of that actually provides the same immersive experience (when it works) as SC.

Whether or not those extra bits of immersion actually matter to you is an entirely separate question, but they are present and a good measure further than any other scifi game I’m aware of. If I’m wrong pleasepleaseplease fill me in, because I fucking love that shit in SC but can’t deal with the bugginess for more than short intervals lol
