Basic dignity will always be at odds with profit motive. We need eternal vigilance and working class solidarity to keep capitalism in check

Ehh, I don’t like the tulip comparison because that situation had nothing to do with hating the working class. The AI craze can only be reasonably explained by a deep contempt and hatred for workers. The capital class is so desperate to replace us that they will jump on any opportunity to do so.
Meta and Tesla are proof that the market doesn’t cull unfit businesses. If anything, the opposite is true, large companies (effective monopolies) will sell at a loss to strangle thriving smaller companies and then will buy them out and dismantle them.
Reminder that the US arguably turned Russia into what it is today. The Soviets wanted peace after ww2, but the US threw everything it had at destroying communism. Putin was a Soviet intelligence officer during the cold war and he is convinced that the US and their western allies strangled the USSR to death with economic disruptions, sanctions, and relentless disinformation. So now Russia is doing to us what we did to the USSR
AI art is a solution searching for a problem that has never existed.
The problem has existed and it is one of the core contradictions inherent to capitalism: that the wealthy see our wages as their lost profits while in reality their profits are unpaid surplus value of our labor… There isn’t a path forward with a capitalist system because the capital class will never stop trying to commodify every aspect of society and they will never stop trying to replace us with machines or cheap foreign slave labor
We’re all slaves to the billionaires under capitalism. It is a slightly more ethical type of slavery, but ultimately we still do the bidding of the wealthy and we sacrifice the best years of our lives to build their financial empires
Reminder that this is still capitalism. Capitalism gave Elon Musk the wealth and power to destroy American democracy so the world’s most successful capitalist destroying democracy is capitalism in action.
Is that why people randomly flash their lights at me? I just thought they were assholes.
Agreed, but if that were even possible then we wouldn’t be in this mess to begin with and Trump would be in jail for his failed Jan 6th putsch.
Can’t forget how the rich get legal representation while the poors do not. There is no justice in this country until legal counsel is affordable and accessible to everyone.
“Empty posturing” is a very cynical and cruel way to frame it. What would you have Zelensky do instead? Quietly let Putin and Trump divide his country up?
They want to hack and steal the Ukrainian election like they did with the US election
Because of insatiable greed, aka gold sickness aka “profit motive” of capitalism
Trump is a fickle king, not a rational strategist. Trump unbanned Tiktok because 1. His son Baron asked him to, 2. To make Biden look bad, 3. Because Tiktok kissed the ring and made some back room deals with Trump
Hmm, so 0.00001% of their gdp? The US collectively blew around $6 billion on the 2024 Presidential election (mostly from SuperPac spending, but billionaires wasting our money is every bit as bad as tax dollars being wasted)
California tried that with their prop 65 warnings on everything and it just made people ignore all the label warnings instead.
So no, we should only target the worst offenders.
You can’t separate wealth from power so the only way to prevent the wealthy from capturing our governments is to abolish all the billionaires and to aggressively restrict the maximum amount of wealth a single person can own
90% of Canadians on the US border so you could argue most of Canada isn’t habitable for large populations.
There is a 3rd type: people desperate for work / experience who are simply taking the best paying job they can find. It is actually the most common type of working in the US.
