Gentle nerd freak of the pacific northwest. All nation states are vermin.
Oh yeah, I see that. No idea what I thought it said.
Y’all … You guys … you’re
Let’s ignore the question of what you think moralizing is if you saw it in the eight words you replied to. What I’m curious about is, do you think you’re talking to Hezbollah? On Lemmy?
Netanhayu’s not god, he’s just a brutal lying tyrant with no respect for human life - so I can see how you’d get confused.
I don’t think it’s quite that simple. Both parties support the US empire, of which Israel is a keystone piece in a vital region.
But israel’s genocide and a wider war in the middle east don’t benefit our imperial interests, only netanyahu’s career. Without the leverage of an election year, we’d have more political room to reign in our wayward vassal a little.
We’re just gonna let netanyahu start a regional war to avoid the consequences of his own failures because if we try to stop him AIPAC will do even more to help the neo-nazi riddled republican party win in november.
The 21st century is going great.
I don’t think you can presume to know what he expected when he hasn’t said what he expected, or to know the effect it’s had within a handful of days.
Trying to take your own life out of depression and being willing to give your life to a cause differ in intent, goals, context and likely methods.
What benefits do you see from classifying them as the same thing? They seem very different to me.
Starting ones self on fire is a suicide attempt, regardless of political motive.
Is being a soldier assigned to conduct an assault operation also a suicide attempt?
Knowingly doing something that might kill you is not the sole criteria for a suicide attempt. If they weren’t suicidal it wasn’t a suicide attempt.
They were suicidal
I’ve not heard any reporting say this. I’ve seen internet commenters presume this, but just because someone engaged in an action that could result in their death, doesn’t mean they’re suicidal.
I don’t think it’s realistic to assume you understand the mental state of someone who’s already proved they are capable of setting themselves on fire to make a point.
Why would you think that people who have the courage to act on their principles would regret it?
The amount of self determination it must take to smell the gasoline and still strike the match makes me think that the people who do this are capable of living with the consequences of their actions.
At my previous job their was a role where you just called insurance companies and asked them incredibly basic questions about what they planned to do for a patient with diagnosis X and plan Y. This information should be searchable in a document with a single correct answer, but insurance companies are too scummy for that to be reliable.
In 2021 we started using a robot that sounded like a human to call instead. It could handle the ~80%+ of calls that don’t use any critical thinking. At a guess, that’s maybe 5-10% of our division’s workforce that wasn’t needed anymore.
With the amount of jobs like this that are 100% bullshit, I’m sure there are plenty of other cases where businesses can save money by buying an automated bullshit generator, instead of hiring a breathing bullshit generator.
Don’t Do What Donny Don’t Does!
If it’s a nation state, it’s already not a democracy.
The idea that choosing which particular rich people sit in a fancy building is somehow democracy is quite funny.
Calling that a joke seems… generous.
