“Starting today or tomorrow, the results of this Russian aid will begin to be seen over the course of several days,” the president stated during an interview granted to RT within the framework of the V International Patria Colloquium.
The shipment of nearly 100,000 tons of crude oil sent by Moscow has completed its refining and distribution process to be injected into the national system. The distribution of the derivatives from refining this crude seeks to alleviate the complex energy situation the island is experiencing.
Díaz-Canel valued the gesture of the Russian Government as a significant act of support in times of difficulty. Although the volume received covers approximately one-third of the nation’s monthly needs, the head of state emphasized that this action opens spaces for other countries to defend their right to supply fuel to the island.
The bilateral energy program was analyzed last month during meetings of the intergovernmental joint commission. The arrival of the vessel Anatoli Kolodkin at the port of Matanzas last April 4 is part of these humanitarian assistance agreements.
The Cuban president denounced these actions as an energy blockade and described the aggressive U.S. policy against the Caribbean nation as criminal. This hostility intensified last January 29, when the Trump administration decreed the imposition of tariffs on countries supplying oil to the island, affecting vital sectors such as electricity generation, transportation, food production, health, and education.
