Yes i am aware that is a Generic Title and im not trying to be all “Grrr these Modern Games are destroying us >:((((((” :P
but more so on the Side of that you now have access to all these Games for like usually a few Bucks here and there due to all the Sales on Platforms like Steam and GOG for Example :P
But it just feels like you cant decide and have too much to play and choose from X_X
and thats not really a “Oh Digital Gaming Bad” per se as i do notice it with my Physical Collection as well of course that i cannot decide what i wanna play >.>
But more so that Gaming just feels “more difficult” and also a ton more Toxic and Mean maybe? >.>
Like for example when i look at old Conventions like E3 or even Gamescom from the 2010s im like “Holy Shit look at all these Cool Games” but obviously nowadays its just “meh” really >.>
Afterall E3 is Dead and Gamescom is basically overrun by Influencers all Day >.>
But for example also Game Trailers kinda feel Weird in a Sense? >.>
Like i do not wanna bash Editors of these Trailers of course but for example i watched the Borderland 2 Trailer a few Months back and i really enjoyed it personally same with the Bioshock 2 or Super mario Galaxy Trailers for Example :P
Like i am unsure if “well structured” is the right Word as obviously modern Game Trailers are also well structured tho its just that something feels different >.>
Unsure if my Text really makes sense tho as its a bunch of Weird Nonsense im typing out as i suck at expressing myself via Text but maybe someone can relate? >.<

I’ve been gaming since C64 days. We had the problem of too many games already back then. Hundreds of pirated games on disks and most of them weren’t even good.

The other day I felt the urge to play a new game from the “dead” point & click adventure genre. Filtered my Steam games and even found a relatively recent one with full Steam Deck support that was given away for free.

And I think I can do that with basically any genre.

Great indy titles get released all the time. Emulation gives me the ability to play almost everything from the entire history of gaming. Or just play one of my favourites. I just have to reach out and play. 2023 was an amazing year for gaming. 2025 wasn’t bad either.

Sure, bad games get made as well. But when I feel down I can just stop playing those and play Diarrhea 4 instead.

I think for most of your examples it’s your rose-colored glasses speaking.

also a ton more Toxic and Mean

You’re just forgetting all the console war stuff from the past. Or the “CoD lobby” type shit.

E3 or even Gamescom from the 2010s im like “Holy Shit look at all these Cool Games” but obviously nowadays its just “meh” really

Again, I think you’re just not thinking about all these mediocre games that have existed since the very beginning. All the shitty movie tie-ins or whatever, that got pumped out all the time.

Gaming has been toxic and mean for a loooong time. Shitty games have been made since basically the very beginning.

And before CoD lobbies it was Halo and Socom lobbies. PvP skill based games will always foster toxic communities because the tryhards don’t understand friendly competition.

Line breaks between paragraphs help. Emojis don’t. Writing is a skill you can practice, so don’t give up.

To your point, maybe you’re just getting older? There’s always been a small number of breakouts and a bunch of clones and shovel-ware. When you’re a kid, things are new and unlimited in their potential. As you get older, you realize that the game world is limited

To get a fair comparison, you’d need to poll people who are the same age that you were at the time you’re comparing to. I bet you’ll find that they’re just as into gaming as you were at that age. What’s happening is that you’re getting older, and you aren’t enchanted by the same things that you once were. Basically, this is a ‘Back in my day…’ rant about the ‘good old days’.

Yeah it happens once you game for a while and most of the puzzles are solved you start to see them in new games and its not as fun as they were the first time. Finding different genres can help but also just finding a different hobby for a while
