The United States and NATO have sought a temporary ceasefire in Iraq to facilitate their withdrawal, according to Iraqi resistance factions.
Abu Mahdi al-Jaafari, spokesperson for the Awliyaa Al-Dam Brigades, said Washington and NATO requested mediation through the Iraqi government “to obtain a temporary 24-hour truce from the resistance factions, with the aim of completing the withdrawal of their forces from the Victory base in Baghdad towards Turkey.”
He added that several factions agreed to the truce under strict conditions, including that “the Popular Mobilization Forces’ positions extending from Samarra to Karbala not be targeted,” warning that any violation “will be met with a strong response.”
Al-Jaafari also noted that NATO aircraft were unable to land at the base due to the intensity of ongoing attacks, stating that “NATO S-30 aircraft failed to land inside Victory base due to the intensity of the fire targeting the base.”
