    In case this is a serious question, it’s the remain of Rei body after the event of the story. I don’t think it means something other than serve as a reminders (along with all the blood) of the choice of the Shinji. His choice has a lot of meaning and is the main point of the author. Choose real connections with others, even though it will hurt you and create damages permanently.

        I can only recommend you watch Evangelion if you never did. Very weird and sometimes uncomfortable but great monument of anime and cool action scene and deep subject about human nature. You can also read the manga.

        If you like any, then you can watch the “remake”, but I would stop at 2.0 or 3.0.

        The manga, original anime and remake have all variation in the events of the story. I think they also did a manga following the protagonist in a world without any Mecha/angel. It’s weird but it’s a classic for a reason, but I can understand it’s not for everyone
