Well, both companies are shutting down now, really sad
I know; it’s heartbreaking. Because Amazon has failed to hard with Alexa and axed headcount for the project, investment in voice assistants across the board has vanished while funds are moved onto LLMs etc.
I’ve been using these technologies to help a blind member of my family and I’m sad the projects still stagnate but thankfully the open nature means I can nurse the code base to keep working as is for the foreseeable future and for that I’m eternally grateful to the developers for their generosity and commitment to open source.
Tortoise tts is great although it struggle with acronyms and while Bark tts is slightly lower in quality ( tho it can do more than speaking since it can produce sound effects and music ) it doesn’t have that problem.
