Chad called on the US to withdraw its troops from an army base in the central African country that’s one of the West’s few remaining outposts to fight a roiling jihadist insurgency in the region.
The key is that Russia doesn’t really care about ideology in the way that the West does. It’s less of an attempt to align ideologies, more an attempt to gain allies directly.

Makes sense; Russia’s foreign interests have mostly remained aligned with the Global South against the US even after capitalists overthrew the USSR.
