Using a game controller will now count as “activity”, stopping the system from automatically going to sleep or locking the screen. (Yelsin Sepulveda, KDE bug #328987)
I don’t know why this was not done before. I had in the past some nightmare experience trying to play emulation and my screen would go sleep every 15 minutes or so. That’s why I have this disabled and display never sleeps! I am curious to try the new feature if it works as intended.
Based on the actual bug report, because the people working on this are volunteers and the workaround is simple.
If you think fixing bugs like these is a worthwhile endeavour, chip in some money or volunteer. There are many ways for people volunteer that aren’t writing code, so if you aren’t a software developer don’t let that discourage you.
Indeed, I imagine controller support is not one of the top priorities of plasma. It is likely most developers do not even have a controller to test whether changes affect its usability.
However, just so it is clear, no it is not only volunteers. There is people paid to maintain KDE and plasma. That is why it is a good idea to give some money to the project if you use it: it actually improves the thing.
