The FIFA Women’s World Cup is underway after two people died and five others were injured in a shooting in Auckland on the eve of the tournament, with a minute’s silence held before the opening game.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the incident, which left the offender deceased and a police officer among those injured.
The officer was transported to a hospital in critical condition but his condition stabilized.
